Frequently Asked Questions

  • Vision Therapy is a sequence of neurosensory and neuromuscular activities individually prescribed and monitored by a doctor to develop, rehabilitate, and enhance visual skills and processing.

We would say: "We treat binocular vision problems. We specialize in physical therapy for the eyes to help the two eyes work better together."

  • Reasons for getting a Vision Therapy Evaluation:

    1) If an outside professional suspects there is a vision problem that could be treated or improved with Vision Therapy

    2) If a parent is interested in seeing if their child has any vision related problems that may be hindering their academic performance

    3) If an adult has had a stroke or a head injury and they are having vision issues as a result

All of these scenarios can be treated and/or improved with Vision Therapy. A Vision Therapy Evaluation will diagnose these problems and determine how long a patient needs therapy in order to become rehabilitated.

  • There is no age limit for Vision Therapy. We treat individuals from ages 5+. However, most children of academic ages (5-18) tend to see the quickest and longest lasting results from Vision Therapy.

  • Contact our office at (512) 290-9127 to schedule your Vision Therapy. Evaluation with Dr. Grace Salone, OD. Once evaluated, Dr. Salone will review your results, and inform you if you or your child could benefit from Vision Therapy. If so, a Vision Therapist will reach out to you within 1-2 weeks to get you or your child scheduled and started.

  • Vision Therapy is not often covered by medical or vision insurance, unfortunately. However, it is a case-by-case basis. We will always submit the first session to your insurance(s) to verify if they cover your sessions.

  • If Vision Therapy is NOT covered by your medical or vision insurance, the cost of Vision Therapy is $130 per session. We provide the following discounts:

    • 10% discount for 6 session packages

    • 15% discount on 12 sessions

    • 20% discount on 24 sessions

We also have special financing through CareCredit (enrollment required). We accept all major credit cards, CareCredit, and AfterPay (through BillFlash)

  • Vision Therapy sessions are typically* done one-on-one and last 45 minutes. We highly recommend patients come in weekly, but we offer biweekly sessions. Home VT is offered to patients with specific diagnosis prior to starting in-clinic sessions.

  • For certain patients of specific diagnoses, home activities with our VT Kit may be prescribed to help improve visual acuity and overall functionality before starting in-clinic therapy. Conditions treated initially with home exercises include Refractive Amblyopia and Myopia Control. Once the patient is ready to begin guided therapy, then they join us for either weekly or bi-weekly in-clinic sessions with our Vision Therapists.

  • We recommend you practice the exercises your Vision Therapist gave you at least 3-5x a week to either build or maintain the skills you have acquired through vision therapy. You will receive a Vision Therapy Kit that includes all the tools you will need to continue practicing your skills at home. Once you graduate Vision Therapy, you will still need to maintain these skills by tapering the frequency of your activities.
